Randy Buckner is the Director of Research and Development at Avion Solutions in Huntsville, Alabama, where he is responsible for expanding advanced Army technologies into the commercial sector. Now retired after 36 years of federal service, Mr. Buckner is a member of the Energy Huntsville (EH) initiative, which is working to diversify the region’s workforce and economy to include energy applications and innovations. Avion was one of EH’s first corporate sponsors. Avion provides extensive engineering and logistical-support services to the Army’s aviation community in Huntsville, as well as in several locations throughout the United States.   In federal service, Mr. Buckner served as Chief of the Sustainment Engineering Division, Aviation Engineering Directorate, Redstone Arsenal. He was responsible for management of critical safety items for all aviation systems, conformance and compliance oversight for alternate source vendors, and other sustainment engineering functions. Mr. Buckner also serves on the board of the Huntsville chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers. The local chapter promotes the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry while fostering action for sustainable development.   Away from the professional world, Mr. Buckner has a 20kW photovoltaic solar system installed on his homestead in Limestone County. His system is grid-tied under the 2014 TVA Green Power Providers program.

Darryl Bird is a principal architect with Bird & Kamback Architects in Huntsville, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1987 and has been in the field of architecture since that time, becoming a registered architect in 1992. Along with Greg Kamback, he founded Bird & Kamback Architects in 1998. Bird & Kamback is a full-service architectural firm, designing a wide array of building types throughout North Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. His portfolio of projects includes residential, commercial, educational, and religious buildings, with an emphasis on sustainable design.   A LEED-Accredited Professional with specialties in Homes and Neighborhood Development, Darryl served on the State Board of the United States Green Building Council from 2011 through 2013. He served on the State Board of the United States Green Building Council from 2011 through 2013, and has been a member of the North Alabama branch since 2009. The chapter serves to fulfill the USGBC's mission: "To transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life."   Since 1995, Darryl has been an instructor in the Interior Design Certificate Program at the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he teaches classes in architectural space planning and design. Since 2012 he has blogged on the subject of architecture. His blog,, explores the connections between architecture and the world around us.   Darryl is a past president of the American Institute of Architects, North Alabama Chapter. He has served on the chapter’s board in several capacities and currently resides as a Director. The chapter represents architects across all of North Alabama. Its purpose is to serve member architects, affiliated partners, and the public at large by connecting, informing, educating, and promoting architecture.

Edwan O’Neal

Edwan O’Neal is the Coordinator for the Upward Bound program at the North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence (NACEE), located in Huntsville, Alabama, where he provides educational services to first generation, low-income, and underrepresented high school students. The main objective is to ensure students graduate from high school and enroll into post secondary education. The program services students in Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County Schools. Since 2011, Mr. O’Neal and his team have been fortunate to build relationships and partnerships with businesses & industries such as Technology Management Training Group, Hudson Alpha Institute, Childress Accounting, Space & Rocket Center Education Department, as well as colleges and universities such as Alabama A & M University, Tuskegee University, Oakwood University, University of Alabama Huntsville, Calhoun Community College, and Drake State Community & Technical College. These partnerships have provided an opportunity to enhance the learning capacity and leadership development for students in the program.   Prior to NACEE, Edwan served as a director in the department of student affairs at Alabama A&M University. He was also employed as the assistant director of admissions/ recruitment at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.   Mr. O’Neal is actively involved in the community working with several organizations and non-profits. He is an Alumnus of Leadership Huntsville/ Madison County Connect Class 9 and a graduate of the Diversity Leadership Colloquium Cohort IV. Edwan graduated from University of West Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Master’s Degree in Counseling/Psychology. He is currently completing his doctoral degree in Higher Educational Leadership.   Edwan is married to Kandace O’Neal and they have an amazing young son, Karson. In addition to his many responsibilities, he is a keynote speaker, event manager, and educational consultant. He also coaches basketball at Columbia High School.

Daniel Tait is Energy Alabama's COO, guiding the organization's mission of accelerating Alabama’s transition to sustainable energy. Daniel has earned recognition as the Association of Energy Engineers' International Young Energy Professional of the Year for 2015. In addition to his duties with Energy Alabama, Daniel volunteers for Energy Huntsville and acts as Treasurer of the Association of Energy Engineers, Huntsville Chapter. He is a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County’s Connect Program, Class 15 and the Alabama Leadership Initiative, class of 2016. Daniel graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a degree in International Trade and Foreign Language.
John Reutter

Dr. John Reutter is founder and president of the Reutter Group, a consultancy specializing in strategic planning, program evaluation and grant development for 501(c)(3) organizations. Reutter has fifty-two years of experience as an IT business developer, college professor and administrator of higher education. He founded two Silicon Valley IT firms, worked 11 years for AT&T as a software developer, including three years with Bell Labs as a programming language and operating systems researcher. He also served as VISA’s VP of software that managed the VISA worldwide credit card transaction network.   Reutter left Silicon Valley in 1990 to join the University of North Alabama as a professor of computer science and later accepted the position of department chair of business and information technologies at Northwest-Shoals Community College. While there he completed his doctorate in higher education administration at the University of Alabama and subsequently served five Alabama community colleges in various roles, including professor of computer science, director of institutional research, director of workforce development, dean of academic affairs and dean of planning and research. While with the Alabama Community College System, he developed and administered over $30 million in federal, state, NSF, and private foundation grants. He also served the US Air Force Materiel Command for three years as its dean of immersion education, training over 4,000 logistics personnel in sustainment processes.   Before retiring in 2016 to form his consultancy, Dr. Reutter served as acting president of Drake State Community and Technical College in Huntsville, Alabama. In addition to his doctorate, Reutter holds an MS in Computer Science from Rutgers University, an MBA from the University of North Alabama, and a BS in Applied Mathematics from California State Polytechnic University and authored a McGraw-Hill textbook in computer science.
